Building opportunity for all
Our mission is to build flourishing nations that provide all people the opportunity to apply their creativity and entrepreneurial skills. National governments are our key partners in this work because they are critical for systems-level, long-term change.
The great challenge of our time is ensuring that the doors of opportunity are open for every person on the planet, regardless of where they are born.
The Chandler Foundation partners with national governments to promote policies, practices, and social norms that build upward social mobility and prevent entrenched corruption. The Chandler Foundation convenes and connects civil society, the private sector, and international institutions, encouraging collaborations that ensure public resources get to the people who need them the most.
What if instead of addressing symptoms caused by ineffective governments, we focused more attention on improving governance?
Governments – not philanthropy – play the most important roles in determining how to address our current challenges. We believe philanthropy would be more impactful if more of it was directed at helping reform-minded governments create cultures of integrity and ensure economic opportunities for all.
We believe thriving individuals, organizations, and societies have a moral center. Recognizing that we cannot influence what we do not practice, we aspire to model the values we seek in our partners.
Trust
Trust is the currency for shared prosperity.
We always seek to build trust equity, which is the foundation for fair, just, and prosperous societies.
Integrity
Integrity is non-negotiable, and the bedrock on which strong individuals, communities, and organizations stand.
Integrity means choosing what is right over what is convenient. It means being guided by strong ethics that are supported by good governance.
Collaboration
Collaboration is imperative for solving big problems.
The world's problems are too complex and entrenched to tackle alone. We seek out partners whenever possible.
Humility
Humility is at the heart of serving others
We value wisdom and lifetime learning. We know that we do not have all the answers, and we seek out feedback and knowledge from those who are more proximate to the problem at hand.
